After completing her three-year nursing training and certification in 1980, Paula specialized in intensive care. Her time in the ICU involved looking after multi-vehicle accident, drug overdose, post-surgical infection, massive burn and general intense condition patients requiring patient ventilation.
She completed her Personal Training Certificate in 2001, the Diploma of Remedial Massage in 2002 and the Degree in Health Science Musculoskeletal Therapy in 2007. This established a pathway to corrective exercises and rehabilitation of the patient suffering soft tissue dysfunction.
Specialising in musculoskeletal therapy since 2007, Paula Nutting owns and operates a successful remedial massage therapy clinic in the north of Brisbane. She has lectured extensively and has also been involved in the creation of various vocational and tertiary units of study. Paula is published in numerous journals and text books, as well as authoring her own series of books.
She has presented courses, seminars and workshops locally and internationally on musculoskeletal dysfunction, instability of the core, acute and chronic muscle imbalance and many muscle and joint techniques. Paula has been involved on various Australian and international associations, including AAMT, the Ethics Committee, the Education Committee, the National Health Practitioners of Canada, and the AMRF.
Paula has served on the Australian Association of Massage Therapists (AAMT) - the largest peak body since its inception - in 2000: As Vice President of the Queensland Branch, as a Director for a four-year term, and as President from 2008–2010.
Paula was reinstated as a Board Director in 2014 as an member elect.
Paula served as Chair on the Ethics Committee for several years and she is currently Chair of the Education Committee. She is a past Director on the Board of the Australian Massage Research Foundation (AMRF).
She has also been involved in the National Health Practitioners of Canada/AAMT governance and strategic planning.
Paula is a published expert in her field, boasting her own book series, plus an array of article contributions in various esteemed journals and text books on massage. She has also produced an extensive list of videos demonstrating the treatment of many conditions of the body.
She is currently finishing a six-book series on best treatment options for those therapists practicing in the remedial bodywork industries, as well as covering various aspects of musculoskeletal therapy.
